"A Generation of Exploration" - Shuttle Commemorative Patch by Tim Gagnon

This 12" fully embroidered patch celebrates every mission in the Space Shuttle Program. The central focus is the Astronaut Symbol which connects launch and landing of the orbiter as this was the first spacecraft with that capability. The orbiter in flight depicts the DoD Missions as its payload bay is hidden - its orbital path is silver and becomes gold. The planets Venus and Jupiter represent the missions launched from the shuttle to explore those worlds.

Iconic scenes and payloads surround the area of space in tribute to the versatility of the space shuttle orbiters. They include a Spacelab module, an Astronaut flying the MMU, the LDEF, TDRSS. Also shown are the great observatories Compton, Hubble and Chandra, as well as the space stations visited and assembled, MIR and the International Space Station. The re-entering space shuttle glows red hot as it returns to earth. Finally, the orbiter is transported atop the modified 747 to be readied for its next mission.
